West Michigan Construction Institute Training Program: Building the Next Generation

FWC is proud to be involved with the West Michigan Construction Institute and the work they are doing to equip the next generation of construction professionals.

Through our partnership with WMCI, our own Wes Braun is in his second year of teaching a course and recently took students on a field trip to one of our job sites. This West Michigan Construction Institute training program gives students the opportunity to apply what they’re learning by working through real job site discrepancies and gaining hands-on experience with construction drawings.

The course, “General Carpentry with Core,” introduces students to carpentry field duties ranging from framing with wood and metal studs, window, door, and roof blocking, and floor and wall sheathing to setting casework, installing doors, frames, hardware, and other finish carpentry elements. The Core portion provides foundational skills across all construction trades, including safety practices and proper use of hand and power tools.

This full-year adult course begins in the fall, with additional carpentry programs available for high school students. Visit www.wmcinstitute.com or email information@wmcinstitute.com to learn more about the opportunities available through the West Michigan Construction Institute.
