At a Glance:
In August 2019, East Kentwood High School, part of Kentwood Public Schools, completed a new secure entrance addition designed to enhance campus safety and visitor management ahead of the new school year. This K-12 school security upgrade established a clearly defined main entry point, allowing staff to effectively monitor and control the flow of students and visitors entering and exiting the building.
A central feature of the project is a large security desk with custom casework, providing a dedicated space for KPS safety personnel to greet visitors, manage check-ins, and oversee hallway activity. This design supports modern access control protocols while maintaining a welcoming and organized entry experience.
Additional improvements to the existing foyer included the installation of a new walk-off mat system, replacement of damaged tile, and the addition of custom metal partitions to clearly separate entrance and exit doors for improved traffic flow. A new ceiling grid was also installed at the exterior overhang, enhancing both durability and visual appeal.
Beyond daily school use, the secure entrance and security desk serve as a functional kiosk during after-school events, supporting crowd management and operational efficiency.
This project reflects a proactive approach to school security construction and secure entry design, delivering a safe, controlled, and user-friendly environment for students, staff, and visitors.
