Pine Creek Elementary School, part of West Ottawa Public Schools, underwent a comprehensive K-12 renovation project between 2020 and 2021, delivering building-wide improvements to classrooms, corridors, offices, and the media center. This large-scale school modernization project included selective demolition and full interior upgrades designed to enhance both functionality and the learning environment.
Each classroom, corridor, and office space received new energy-efficient LED lighting and replacement exterior windows, improving visibility, comfort, and overall building performance. Interior finishes were also upgraded throughout the facility, including the installation of new carpet flooring in classrooms, hallways, the library, and cafeteria. A complete interior painting package refreshed the space with updated wall colors, door frames, accent stripes, and locker finishes, creating a cohesive and modern aesthetic.
Security and communication systems were also enhanced, with the installation of key card access hardware on interior doors, along with new audio/PA speakers and fire alarm systems throughout the building to improve safety and daily operations.
A major component of the project was the installation of a new HVAC system, significantly upgrading the school’s mechanical infrastructure. Due to the size of the equipment required, a portion of the roof was temporarily removed to allow the unit to be set in place. In addition, the existing boiler system was replaced and integrated with a new geothermal heating system, improving long-term energy efficiency and sustainability.
As part of the continued campus improvements, the next phase of the project includes a two-classroom addition, with construction beginning in October 2021 and scheduled for completion in August 2022.
This project highlights a comprehensive approach to elementary school renovation and building systems upgrades, combining interior modernization, infrastructure improvements, and future expansion to support a high-performing educational environment.
