Construction began in April 2022 at Great Lakes Elementary School as part of a K-12 classroom addition and renovation project for West Ottawa Public Schools. The project included a two-classroom addition at the south end of the building, designed to expand capacity while enhancing the learning environment.

The new addition features a welcoming foyer space for independent and small group learning, along with in-classroom restrooms for improved functionality and convenience. A standout design element includes a corner bump-out with wraparound windows and built-in bench seating with storage, creating a bright, flexible space that maximizes natural light and student engagement.

In addition to the new construction, several school facility upgrades were completed throughout the existing building. Improvements included the installation of a new exterior chiller unit and HVAC system upgrades, enhancing overall building performance and energy efficiency.

Interior finishes were updated to align with district branding, including painted hallway accent stripes in black and blue, refreshed lockers with a dark gray finish, and a revitalized gymnasium featuring new white wall paint and updated acoustic sound baffles in West Ottawa blue.

This elementary school construction project was completed in just 4.5 months, with all work finished prior to the start of the 2023 school year—delivering a seamless transition for students and staff.
