At a Glance:

As part of Kentwood Public Schools’ initiative to convert satellite kitchens into full production kitchen facilities, Explorer Elementary School underwent a complete commercial kitchen renovation in 2020. This K-12 food service upgrade project was designed to improve food quality, efficiency, and the overall dining experience for students and staff.

Because construction took place during the active school year, a temporary serving kitchen was installed to ensure uninterrupted meal service and maintain daily nutrition programs throughout the renovation process.

The newly expanded kitchen was designed to support modern food service operations and includes state-of-the-art commercial kitchen equipment. Key features include a walk-in freezer and cooler, a fully integrated serving line, and stainless steel food preparation stations that improve workflow and efficiency. Additional upgrades include polished flooring, custom wall tile finishes, new roll-up doors, and a dedicated delivery and dry storage area to streamline inventory and operations.

These enhancements provide a seamless transition from food preparation to service, creating a more efficient and user-friendly environment for both staff and students. The completed project reflects a strategic investment in school kitchen construction and cafeteria operations, supporting higher-quality meal programs and long-term facility performance.
