In April of 2022, construction began at Great Lakes Elementary to add a 2 classroom addition to the south end of the building.

The new addition showcases a foyer for independent and small group learning, in-classroom bathrooms and a unique corner bump-out with wrap around windows and a bench with storage for seating and natural light learning.

The rest of the elementary school also received some improvements. A new chiller was set in place outside of the gymnasium and upgrades were made to the HVAC system. To follow with the district's branding, a black and blue stripe was painted in the hallways, the lockers were updated with a fresh coat of dark grey paint and the gymnasium walls were painted white while the sound baffles were updated with the West Ottawa district blue.

This entire project was completed in 4.5 months as the new classrooms and additional work was finished prior to the beginning of the 2023 school year.
