Kentwood Public Schools is in the process of transitioning all of their satellite kitchens into full production kitchens to ensure food freshness and increased quality for students and staff. In 2020, the Explorer Elementary kitchen was completely remodeled to do just that. Because this project took place during the school year, a temporary serving kitchen was built and put in place to ensure the students’ nutritional needs continued to be met during the construction phase.
The new expanded kitchen was designed and built to accommodate all new state of the art food service equipment. A walk-in freezer/cooler, serving line, and stainless steel prep-stations were among the new equipment installed. The kitchen was also completed with freshly polished floors, custom wall tile, new roll-up doors and a new delivery and dry storage area. All of the upgrades provide students with a smooth transition from choosing their food options to entering the cafeteria to eat their meal.
